What is MyMission
MY Mission (or Methodist Youth Mission) is a one-week, urban mission camp sponsored by the SWTC Council on Youth Ministries. MY Mission is at University United Methodist Church in San Antonio. It is designed for Sr. High students (entering 9th thru 12th grades) to attend either as a youth group or as an individual. My Mission is about putting others first, thru serving Christ and Community.
Cost & Dates
The cost for youth to attend MY Mission is $100 each. This covers all expenses during the camp. Staff attend at $50 each. Checks can be made out to SWTC Treasurer. (Adults please see additional Staff info on form.) The camp begins after dinner on Sunday, June 22, 08, at 6 PM, and concludes on Thursday, June 26, 08, at noon.
Service Specifics
Urban mission camp service opportunities include:
1) Conduct a Vacation Bible school at Jefferson UMC for local neighborhood children. 2) Attend and serve at a homeless shelter, 3) Play with the children at the WesleyCommunity Center. 4) Work at the area food bank 5) Visit Childrens Methodist Hospital, 6) Hand out bottles of water & snow cones to homeless in San Antonio.
Activities & Worship
Enjoy cultural experiences, seeing sites of San Antonio, time of fellowship and swimming. Debrief each night with worship by the Mark Swayze Band.
Who can attend
Any Sr. High student who is serious about being in mission and representing Christ to this community in San Antonio. (Camp limited to first 80 persons registered.) Although the name is “MY” Mission, our philosophy is based on Acts 20.24 - “to consider MY life worth nothing to me...” MY Mission is not about us, it’s about loving others for Christ.
What To Bring
1. Sleeping bag, pillow, cot or air mattress.
2. Personal toiletries, towel, soap, etc.
3. A Bible, notebook, flashlight.
4. Modest clothing for 4 days (no short skirts, or halter tops, and one-piece swimsuit please.)
5. One large box of cereal per individual coming
6. Bring a cap and sunscreen.
7. A genuine maturity to serve others for Christ.
8. Leave iPODS, cell phones or jewelry at home.
