Youth Worship Conference | April 1-3, 2011 | University UMC San Antonio

Thanks to all who participated in the first annual Youth Worship Conference it was greatly attended by over 300 participants, 50 different churches, and many volunteers from FUMC Boerne. The Lord was glorified! Thanks to all who helped make it possible. We look forward to hosting this event again next year in San Antonio on April 1-3 and inviting more folks to be a part of God's tremendous movement.

"Reawaken the Passion Within"
Youth Worship Conference is a music, arts and drama, worship-oriented weekend for youth. It’s a brand new, multi-faceted experience to develop passionate worshippers. YWC is geared for students ages 12 to 18 (6th thru 12th grade) who want to grow in practical skills as well as develop a heart for worship leading and participating. It is a Holy Spirit encounter in reawakening our passion for Christ. YWC 2010 included Progeny, the Rev. Ryan Barnett, and the Mark Swayze Band who led us in an awesome time of worship and renewal.

Youth Worship Conference 2010 Workshop Descriptions

The Art of Rehearsal & Resources for Worship: Guitar players constantly strumming and playing riffs every time you take a break? Struggling to pick the right worship set week after week that enhances the message? This workshop will help you master the art of running rehearsal and give you essential tools to enhance your worship experiences.

Choir isn’t Dead: …not by a long shot!  This session is for those who love to sing!  We will focus on preparing choral music to present in a worship setting.  Choose either session….the same music will be covered in both sessions.

Preaching/Storytelling in & outside the Sanctuary: Worship is more than music and leading worship is more than being a musician; this workshop will integrate sermon and story into cultivating meaningful worship experiences and meaningful interactions with others through our lifestyle of worship.

Why Worship Changes Me: God never changes but He is constantly working to change us into a more Christ-like being. We should never leave a time spent in God’s presence unchanged and this workshop will open up the possibilities of God’s intention for life-changing experiences with Him in worship.

Creating Drama Sketch: The human-condition whether changed by Christ or not is full of emotion, words, body-language, and movement. This workshop will help you create and incorporate live-story (drama) into worship.

Taize Worship: What is that? This meditative style of worship is foreign to most of us but it also provides a unique worship experience that allows us to refresh and renew our spirit. Learn in this workshop what Taize Worship is and how you can bring it back home.

Worship: The other six days: Worship is a lifestyle. This workshop will go into depth about what worship looks like in your daily life outside of Sunday and youth group.

How to Write a Worship Song: When we love someone, music seems to come pouring forth. The same is true with our love-relationship with Jesus. This workshop will give you essential tools to write meaningful worship songs to enhance your worship gatherings.

Using Media in Worship: Everywhere we look there is media; it’s part of our culture and can enhance worship experiences greatly. This workshop will be all about incorporating media into worship gatherings whether in your youth group or in your church.

Integrating Dance in Worship: this will be an interactive session. Bring your dancing shoes (or more realistically be ready to get your groove on for Jesus.)

Liturgy in Worship: Liturgy literally means “work of the people” and refers to the role the congregation plays in the drama of worship. Sometimes we complain that church is boring, but knowing the beauty and significance behind the liturgy that has brought people closer to Christ for generations changes our perspective. This session will help you discover the significance of liturgy in worship.

Building & Maintaining a Worship Team: Feel God calling you to start a worship ministry in your church or youth group? This workshop will give you essential tools to build and maintain a worship team.

Why Hymns Should Matter to You: Hymns have been an important part of the worshipping community for centuries. You might be surprised at how they still speak. Come discover some treasure you never knew existed!

Creating Sacred Space: changing your youth room into a place that cultivates a heart and spirit of worship; the practical aspects of redesigning worship spaces and settings to take away distractions and redirect focus on God and enhance worship experiences. This workshop will be for little and large budgets.

Without Ceasing: Prayer in Worship: A lifestyle of worship involves God’s call to pray without ceasing. Prayer is an essential part, if not the most important part of worship, but sometimes we fail to give it the time and effort it deserves. This workshop will help you incorporate prayer into your worship experiences.
